The general consensus for drain cleaners is that its easy to use and convenient if it works for your needs. Keep in mind when using these drain cleaners there are a few things to know and consider.

•  It will not clear all types of clogs, for example solid objects or mineral deposit buildup.
• It can cause more clogs if used excessively. If you find yourself having to use these products over and over, chances are your creating a clog with the drain cleaner as it also builds up in the pipe similar to the way grease will.
• It can damage your plumbing pipes. Being unaware of the type of drain piping in your home and combining that with these drain cleaners can cause a disaster. If you have old piping (Cast Iron, galvanized, Clay) and in which case may have corrosion, the drain cleaner will leave behind a trail in the piping and cause further damage that could ultimately end in your piping collapsing or breaking.
• Avoid using chemical drain cleaners if you knowingly have a septic system. These products are known to damage septic tanks.
• Drain cleaners do not work on Toilets, always use a Plunger.
