During the wintertime around the Peninsula can produce temperatures in the teens, and sometimes below, which means homeowners in the area should take steps to prevent frozen pipes. When water freezes, it expands, which can cause your pipes to burst. This can and will cause major damage to your home.
- Insulating the pipes in your crawlspace and attic.
- Sealing leaks or holes in the home that let cold air flow enter where your pipes are located.
- Disconnecting hose bibs or garden hoses and using an isolated shut off valve to shut off and drain water from pipes leading to outside fixtures.
- When temperatures drop to below freezing it is always a good idea to turn one of your faucets inside on slightly to ensure your water is always moving in the pipes which will help prevent the water from freezing in remote locations.
